A New Nickname

Today I was called Guinness Stout by a passerby ! My Hoomans thought that my "new name" was so funny and went laughing about it.

Apparently, I bear a striking resemblance to its smooth and creamy black body

The Beach Bum

I was totally overwhelmed seeing such a wide open space during a recent trip to the East Coast of Malaysia and I went beserk running happily into endless directions. I had such a pawsome and exciting holiday. Thanks to Amber-Mae and family for recommending us this wonderful pet-friendly place. Our seaside resort was practically empty on the first day when we arrived on Friday and the whole beach front belong to ME ! I also indirectly lost 1 kg due to the 'much needed exercises' - running up and down the sand dunes. You see, I was getting a little too fat prior to this trip. Oooh, there were lots of different smells too - I sniffed on grass and sand and also made friends with the cute animals at Ruby's garden.

I chased the hot dude (pic above) ...

Daily activity included huffing and puffing with Coolboy on the beach (pic above)

My whole body and the face was always covered with sand after a long day of playing around on the beach.

In summary, here's my most enjoyable moments for me on my trip to the beach.

How I Love My Kong

This is why I love my Kong ! Cos there's always a nice surprise hidden somewhere inside. Hmmmm ... I wonder what did my Hoomans stuff into my Kong this time ?

Ruby's Beach Resort

We all went to Ruby's Beach Resort in Cherating which is on the east coast side of Malaysia. For this trip I packed kibbles for 4 days, shampoo, soft stuffies, dog biscuits, bottled water, food bowl and leash. I also brought along my cage and carrier too. As you can see I am a high maintenance traveller and my 'luggage' usually takes up half of Coolboy's car boot.

We left Kuala Lumpur in the late morning but unfortunately after an hour into our journey, I vomited in the car so Coolboy had to detour into Karak town for a short break and clean me up ! Here the Hoomans ate their lunch at Yik Kee restaurant (Karak) which was famous for their noodles and durian tarts .

Luckily, nobody objected when Coolboy brought me (in a carrier) along for their lunch break. As usual some people were curious and stared at me all the time. The workers in this restaurant asked lotsa questions about me too. "Mmmm nice fur ... what does she eat ? " They also said I was a smart girl after I did the circle trick a few times.

I was sitted at a corner looking at the yummy food

Tempting Seafood Noodle

Can I have some please ?

Finally after 3 hours, we arrived at Ruby's Resort our getaway for next 3 days. Located next to Club Med Cherating and the Turtle Sanctuary, the resort has simple accomodation that catered for budget travellers like us. The resort's chalets are basic but comfortable enough and has amenities like air-condition, hot showers, TV, tea/coffee and ... bath towels are provided. Food and drinks in this place is expensive eg RM10 for a plate of fried rice ! But the best part is this place has a fantastic beach front less than a minute walk away.

The seafront is close by Ruby's Resort

We stayed in this chalet - Palm. The other chalet in orange colour is Tembusu.

More Chalets

Me checking out the bathroom area in our chalet. That's the back door.

Eeeks ... my eyes look freaky in this pic.

The patio. HUGE mozzies likes to hang out here during night time.

Whilst the Hoomans went out to Town for lunch, they 'left me' in the patio area ! Not to worry it was safe for me.

There were cute animals scurrying about the resort garden and they came in pairs like a mini Noah's Ark actually. Ruby takes really good care of them and the animals run free in her garden.

A pair of rabbits

There were 2 cats. Tiger (pic above) and Furby (who is not in the pic)

2 pairs of baby turtles. No name yet. Oh, I must not forget Mork and Mindy (no pics), a pair of giant turtle.

Entrance of the Resort

In this resort, Pets are allowed to stay in the chalets and roam about except for the Cafe area which is off limits. Ruby the Owner allows Pets only on non-peak days such as weekdays or when there are non-Muslims staying there. Pet Owners are not encouraged to make bookings on Public Holidays. However, it is best to give her a call to ask which day is suitable for Pets. Contact here.

Directions by road: From Kuala Lumpur drive along the East Coast Highway until the END of the expressway and turn off on the left exit when you reach the big green signboard that says Jabur/Beserlah/Cherating. There is a Phase 2 from Jabur - Kuala Trengganu but this section is not yet ready. The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Cherating is around 3½ hours.

We will remember You

In Memory of (DONUT)
Who went to the Rainbow Bridge 1 year ago today

When first we met,
You were so tiny and so lonely,
But not for long . . .
You gave your little life to us;
And what a life it was !
But when you were gone,
We felt so lost and miss you much,
In our heart your image is deeply etched;
Since you'll never be forgotten, we vow to you today
A hallowed place within our heart is where you'll always stay.
We will remember you . . .

Table Food is Bad for Me

The other day, I had large spoonful of yummy mashed potatoes mixed with kibbles for dinner. It was not a good idea because the next morning I woke up having some red spots and bald patches on my neck. I tend to develop ugly rashes the day after I eat table foods (even tiny bite size is a no-no) such as leftover grilled lamb, fried fish, roast pork and other Hooman style foods. Well, blame it on Coolboy to hand-me those yummy Hooman foods ! Not to worry usually after a few days of 'detoxification', the red spots would clear and my skin will become back to normal again.

The evil instant mash potatoes

Actually due to my skin sensitivities, I have been following a healthy diet which are kibbles mixed with plain vegetables, beef or lamb with no seasonings ie no salt, pepper or sugar. Nicejellybean is quite adamant (she is very strict and my begging skills do not work in front of her at all!) in not feeding me Hooman foods that are salty as my skin might break out into scaly rashes.

My meal consists of beef, pumpkin or carrots and brocolli (cooked) with Kibbles.

This (pic above) is what I am eating almost everyday. I am not a fussy eater. I'll gobble up everything as long as the foods are prepared with tlc - tender loving care and smelled tasty. So far, the results of the new change of diet is really effective and my body coat gradually grew shinny and beautiful, as compared to embarrassingly bald and ugly. My Hoomans are so happy with the new Me !

Anyways, judging from my bad reaction to the above no-no food, I guess I will not be having the delicious mash potatoes or a teeny weeny piece of table food anymore. What's fine for the Hoomans may not be suitable for me, right. Darn.

A Seaside Escapade

A week ago, I had an enjoyable adventure because Coolboy took us on an afternoon trip to the beach at Port Dickson where I played in the sea for the very first time. There were lots of people taking a break on the beach too since that day was Wesak Day, a public holiday. We drove along the seafront and luckily, we managed to find a secluded part of the seaside for our 'afternoon picnic' and had a nice beach all to ourselves. The weather was cloudy and not hot .... just nice for me and my Hoomans too.

Me posing pwetty for the camera

Strolling along the beach

Coolboy said that I was a brave girl cos I was not afraid of the waves coming up from the sea ! Instead, I went deeper and deeper into the waters but Coolboy pulled me back because he was afraid the waves would wash me away. However, the waves were not strong or big so no worries. It was exciting.

I had so much fun running up and down the sandy beach.

A picturesque moment

Getting all wet in the salty sea water. I had sand on my whiskers, see.

Actually, the water was not dark as it looked since it was close to sunset, the lighting was not bright enough, hence all our photos turned out blacker than usual. I was a dirty litle pug with sand stuck on my face, body and paws after all the playing in the sand and I was given a clean bath straight away once we reached home ! Overall, the trip was a good but tiring for all of us. For me running off leash on the beach feels so good, FREE like a bird .... oooh I wanna go to the beach again.

Doggy James Bond ?

WOW, I can't do this not in a million years ! It was unbelievable watching Gin performing tricks backwards and the 'moonwalk' is pawsome. Here's Gin showing her moves in Britain's Got Talent 2008.

Car Ride

During weekends when Coolboy and Nicejellybean are not busy working, they would bring me along in their car for a leisurely ride. Usually I sit in the passenger seat at first, then I want to climb over into the driver's seat so that I can sit on Coolboy's lap. Most dogs love to ride and, if given the opportunity they would gladly take the drivers seat! When I was a little pug, I was put in the space below the passenger seat for Driver's safety reasons. Of course, now that I am bigger I always manage to easily climb back up on to the seat.

Nowadays when I'm in the car with Coolboy and Nicejellybean together, one of them would drive and the other act as a chaperone ie make sure I stay in place on-leash. The leash is an important percaution so that in the event that I should accidently jump off through the windows someone can actually pull me back in !

I love to stand in the passenger seat with my front paws on the center arm rest so I can look out the glass window. When the windows are down, I like to stick my head far out and feel the wind blowing at my puggy face.

This is where we ended up having Dim Sum in a coffee shop. As usual, I was only allowed to watch my Hoomans eat.

A typical Dim Sum breakfast for my Hoomans consist of fishball, porridge, steamed prawn rolls (cheong fan), baby pork ribs and steamed siew mai

Enjoying the view from the window

For me, I like to window-watch especially when there's so much to see, hear and smell, it can get kinda overwelming .... ooooh. However, Nicejellybean disagree she says the best way for me to travel in the car is actually in my crate/carrier. At least this way, it does guarantee that we all reach our destination alive and ... sane !

Post Holiday Blues

I look bored. And moody. So Coolboy and Nicejellybean suspect I may be on heat again or not? Anyway, my pet holiday was a nice break away from my usual environment. Amber's Mommy really took good care of me eventhough I gave her some mess to clean up twice a day. Well, I can never pee and poo in the same spot, you see.

Then, after I returned home with Coolboy and Nicejellybean strange things happened to me. My pee had blood and was brownish in colour . The next day, I started to pee irregularly in small tiny drops everywhere which was quite abnormal for me and sometimes we found blood in it too. Quickly I was taken to the Vet on the very same day. The Doctor confirmed I was not on heat and the symptoms is similar to UTI. Anyways, I am on antibiotic medication now (still am) and I am getting better soon. At the same time, I also had my first encounter with creepy crawlies - 3 oval shaped ticks/fleas which Coolboy picked out from my fur ! Horrors again ! We all suspect that I may be having some stress due to anxiety separation which is why my Hoomans have been extra attentive towards me these few days. Yay!

On a cheerier note here's a summary of my Hoomans' travels when they backpacked to Indochina for almost one week:

Coolboy and Nicejellybean travelled to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat, one of the seven wonders of the world ! Yes, it is truly an ancient architectural wonder and it took them 3 days to see the main temples in Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm, Banteay Srei, Preah Khan and Banteay Samre. Back in the old days around (1113 - 1220), the Kings build these grand monuments as a place to worship Buddha and Hindu Gods.

Waking up early to catch the sunrise over Angkor at 5am

This monumental site was neglected for many, many years and ever since the accidental discovery of the temple ruins, massive excavation began to errect back huge stones which had fallen down back into its original places, just like a large jigsaw puzzle. Archaeologists took a long time to successfully piece it all together, not surprisingly the restoration work is still ongoing. Angkor became a World Heritage Site in 1992.

Countless views of Buddha found in Bayon temple located within city walls of Angkor Thom. And apparently there is only one smiling Buddha face.

The pic above shows Ta Phrom Temple where the movie 'Tomb Raider' was shot. It had very old trees rooted over the temple ruin. Most tree branches grew so high they looked like steps leading upwards to the heavens.

Faces which has been crudely hacked off for sale. The authorities have since imposed stricter laws to prevent further thefts

Carvings on the gallery walls showing stories of daily life and mystical beliefs.

In the outskirts away from town, poverty can be seen almost everywhere. The Villagers lived in shacks made from' palm leaves' and cute little kids would ask for money (USD 1) when they see foreigners. Children as young as 10 years old were selling handmade items for at least USD1. However, Nicejellybean gave them sweets and foodstuff which they were quite happy to receive.

And guess what, Coolboy and Nicejellybean came across red and yellow route markers at the Tonle Sap Lake boat pier which means Cambodia is next leg on the " .... race " around the world and only 6 flags left. So now we know !

Counting one, two, three, four, five and six flags

Update: Mimi the Pug is much better now. Her pee and apetite for food has returned to normal.
