Rumah Rehat Adeline

Coolboy, Nicejellybean and ME went for a back-to-nature weekend getaway to Adeline's Rest House near Perak town of Gopeng, a place that Nicejellybean had read about from another Blog. Coolboy was happy when he asked the Owner, Adeline Kuo, whether Pets are allowed and she actually enthusiastically said YES! (Note: Pets are allowed on non-peak days and be sure to confirm with her first via email/sms ) Anyways, we left Kuala Lumpur early in the morning and along the way stopped by the Sungai Buloh rest area on the North South highway. Kids who are enjoying their school holidays were so curious when they saw me in my carrier and wanted to play with me.

After 2 hours we reached the Gopeng interchange which is the exit before Ipoh. We drove by Malay villages and the tar road narrowed to only one lane, so cars have to stop at one side to give way to vehicles coming from the opposite direction.

Beyond the villages, the road will pass through a forested area and round a series of bends. From Gopeng town, there were very clear signboards to guide us all the way and after 20 minutes later, we saw our destination on the left.

In Malay language, 'Selamat Datang ke Rumah Rehat Adeline' means 'Welcome to Adeline's Rest House '

Across this bridge is the entrance into our lodgings and a 'pets' adventureland. See that tiny shadow ... it's a baby monkey !

0ops ... I was too short and needed some help getting up the steps there.

Our Hut from a distance

What we like is that it is a tranquil spot set amidst the lush forest. You can hear birds chirping, trees whispering and crickets 'singing' into the night. The accommodation here has several traditional aboriginal bamboo huts offering minimal amenities, no private bathrooms, no TV ... sort of homestay style but comfy enough. Toilets and showers are adjacent to the accommodation and camping ground.

Another bigger hut which can fit up to 20 people

There were plenty of space for me to runabout and sniff around. I wanted to explore the streams which flowed beside our hut and slipped down the steep slope trying to drink from the flowing stream. Then I could not climb back up. Yikes !

I did caused a panic moment when I was off leash. I became excited, ran off and hid behind some low bushes so nobody could see me.

Where is Mimi ???

The grounds is spacious surounded with trees and greenery. I guess because of the natural shade, the weather here was not very hot. In fact, it can get quite chilly at night and early morning.

I see durian trees, rubber trees and rambutan trees

Oooh ... sniff,sniff ... I smell a baby durian

Mimi breathing-in fresh air

Behind me are actually sections of a century-old 14.5km pipeline running from the Ulu Geroh water catchment area to Gopeng town. It is however disheartening to know that this historical longest and oldest pipeline in Malaysia is going to be dismantled soon.

I tried to make friends with resident baby monkey (below) and could see that the monkey was quite afraid cos it tried to keep a distance away from me. The monkey became hysterical and screeched alot.

After a long and tiring afternoon , I went to sleep in my Hut. Mattresses are provided with blankets for Hoomans, and everyone slept on the bamboo floor , including Me. At night time, there was a nice cool breeze which kept the mosquitoes away. (Surprisingly, we caught horrid mozzies in the daytime)

This place is also special not only for the authentic 'orang asli' (aboriginal) type of accommodation but for its home-cooked local food prepared by Owner, Adeline. And for all meals, the Hoomans were served different variety of dishes in buffet style. For late Supper, Auntie Adeline prepared yummy fried banana fritters and sweet potato dessert. You know what, the Hoomans have to wash up their own plates and cups after each meal.

Auntie Adeline, who owns and operates the resort also does the cooking and prepares all the meals too.

The dishes Auntie Adeline cooked for Hoomans was so tempting and looked delicious but due to my strict diet, all I got was tiny bits of BBQ chicken bones and lamb. Early next morning, I went for a morning walk before I was left behind in the Hut ... whilst Coolboy and Nicejellybean joined a group of people for white-water rafting activity.

Later, I went along a short trip to the waterfalls, which was just one of the many waterfalls in this area and it was a first time I saw huge gush of water coming down from high up. I was kinda overwhelmed but was not scared at all.

Some photos taken during our stay:

Overall, this is a charming place to escape the hustle and bustle of City life with plenty of empty spaces for pets like me to roam everywhere. It was quite an unique experience, I tell you.

Election Day

Today, all Malaysians go to the polls to cast their votes for the 12th General Election 2008. Nicejellybean woke us all up early in the morning because she wanted to be the first in-line at the Polling Station. Lucky me .. I tagged along. We arrived at 8 am but the queue was already very, very long. Apparently everybody is early and excited to vote this time round. Before March 8, the Public was informed not to wear red which is the colour of the opposition party (Democratic Action Party) but they did not say that doggies, kitties or hammies can't. So, this morning I wore my red dress to show our support. Luckily the police on stationed there did not make a big deal when they saw me. It took around half hour for Nicejellybean to cast her vote and then we all went back.

The results will be coming in after 7pm and we are monitoring the progress over the internet as there seem to be some news blackout on TV and radio. No doubt the ruling Coalition Party (Barisan National) will sure win majority votes but whether the win is the same as in previous election where they had won an unprecedented 90% of all seats in Parliament ??? Where is Mimi ?

... I am NOT missing or runaway from home. It's a game I play where I will hide myself and wait for Coolboy to find me. When I want a snooze, have no one to play with or everyone ignores me, then I go into one of my secret hideaways where no one can find me. I do this so very quietly that no one actually realises that I am missing ! It can certainly cause a panic and everyone would frantically search for me. This sounds like fun to me but not to Hoomans, I guess.

In this photo, I have crawled into a small space of the TV console. As you can see, I have camouflaged myself and become completely invisible even more so in the night when it is dark and black.

This is my newest hiding place. Coolboy never realised I have curled up in that small space so he went looking for me in other places where I used to hide before - under the bed, behind the curtains, behind potted plants in the corner and in bookcases beside the books. So funny.

Screwball Dog Toy

Now that Chinese New Year celebrations has ended, it's back to a busy schedule for Coolboy and Nicejellybean which means they have less playtime with me ! Anyhow, I try to find things to occupy my own time and with my large collection of toys I can be spoilt for choice.

I got this new strange toy at the Big Dogs pawty a while ago. It has a funny shape unlike my other toys which are either rounded or soft stuffies.

This toy is made of elastic rubber in the shape of a cork screw. If I grab its twirly tail with my small tiny teeth, it swings left and right when I drag it across the floor. You should see me in action ... ha, ha I really look like a goofball !

The best part of having this new toy is the screwball is chewylicious too. I likey !

Chinese New Year Pawty

Last Friday evening we all went for a Chinese New Year pawty which was organized by Amber the Big Dog and her Family. Before the pawty started, I played at a small open space near their house which double-up as a training ground for dogs. However, the obstacles there was a little too challenging for me so I just walked around instead. At 7pm there were a few people but by 8pm more than 20 persons and many more doggies arrived. Wow, I was excited and exhausted already by then when all those doggies and their Hoomans turned up one after another !

Hey, Spotty ... can you spot how many furkids are there ??

Chilling out in the living room.

Me taking a rest and watching everybody else. Oops, I've lost count already !

There was delicious food for me and Hoomans too. I enjoyed all the special dog treats made by Amber's Mommy and when I wanted to have some more later, there were none left! I guess everydoggy lurved the treats a lot.

Dog treats - baked cakes and chicken liver

Guess what, the Big Dogs went around each Guest asking for pawty favours ! Chloe and Faith waited patiently for some nice food in front of Coolboy. They are so good at this that within seconds the Big Dogs were enjoying pieces of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Hmmm note to self, I must learn from them and impersonate their threatening "Please can I some more food" face.

The Big Dogs - Faith and Chloe (L-R) can be very persistent in their quest to have a piece of chicken. Finally, Coolboy could not resist their charming faces and gave them each some yummy Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The pawty was like a mini dog carnival with food and games. I participated in 2 games - "Best Tricks" and "The Fastest Eating & Drinking Duo". In the video below, I was a nervous wreck and touched the wrong place but I got it right the 2nd time. I also performed other simple tricks - sit and circle around.

The second game was The Longest Sit Stay. Faith (below right) the Sit Stay "champion" was there just to challenge the rest not to break their stay. Duchess (below left) came in third place. Both of them look so regal in their positions, don't you think ? The third game was the fastest eating and drinking duo. In this game I had to eat a piece of cocktail sausage whilst Nicejellybean quickly drank her cup of water. The Duo that finnishes everything wins a prize.

Later, our Hosts entertained and performed a few tricks for all of us. I enjoyed watching this one - The Elephant Trick by Amber and Chloe

Oh did I mention that the Big Dogs are crawzy about tennis balls. They have eyes fixed on balls that no matter how high or far you throw those balls .... the Big Dogs always manage to catch them. Amazing !

Chloe and Amber (L-R)

Throughout the evening, I could not I could not keep my paws off my new friend, Bosco. He was so light and fluffy. I had fun chasing and playing with him the whole night.

I was tad overly too friendly that I think Bosco was kind of relieved when I went home with Coolboy and Nicejellybean. Hee, Hee.

I also won prizes in those 2 games and that made my Hoomans so happy. The prizes were 2 delicious muffins which I gobbled up as after-dinner dessert the next day. In addition, I also received a screwball dog toy. (so happy)

The pawty was well organised and I think everybody felt at home at the Big Dogs' house. Although I was the only Pug at this dog meetup, I had no problem networking with other new friends but I felt more at ease with breeds my own size. This is one pawty I'll never forget. Awesome !

Healthy Diet

Nicejellybean does not like me eating especially canned food although sometimes I like having Cesar Lamb in moderation. She tries to prepare simple and nutritious meals that are low in fat and salt for me. It sounds bland and tasteless but it actually smells really good. Here I would like to share with everydoggy the recipe for chicken, kibbles and vegetable stew. Whenever Nicejellybean prepares this yummy food for dinner I would finnish everything without fail till my bowl's spanky clean. I luurve it a lot and I always want more. This is a meal I don't mind having every day !

Ingredients:
-1 potato peel and diced
-3 carrots diced
-1 onion diced
- tomatoes cut in half
- 1 piece chicken thigh or drumstick

Method:
Bring half pot of water to boil and add in the chicken, onions, tomatoes and carrots. Simmer and after 20 -30 minutes put in the diced potato into the pot. Next, simmer the soup for another 15 minutes and off the heat. That's it ! Very simple.

Once the vegetables have soften, scoop out some carrots, potatoes and shredded chicken. Mash everything and mix together with kibbles.

Does it look yummy or not ?

Do not disturb me. It is time to dig in.

I am quite the messy eater once I start eating. The food tend to splatter everywhere !

However, I usually finnish all my food and lick clean the whole bowl in the end. BURP. Yumz.

Actually hoomans like it too. This is Nicejellybean's bowl of stew with macaroni. For hoomans, do add a dash of soya sauce and a pinch of salt for flavour. Do you have any recipes which I may try ? Please do share with me your recipe for a nice meal.

Chinese New Year

This year Chinese New Year is held from 7th February to be exact and the festival lasts for 15 days. Over here in Malaysia, the festival is celebrated on a less grandeur scale as compared to the people in China/Hong Kong Kong and Taiwan. On the eve, we all attended the REUNION dinner at my Grandma's house and we also enthusiastically wore red on that night. She cooks the most yummylicious and delicious dishes for this special day. My hoomans ate sweet and sour prawns, fried chicken wings, fried fish, green vegetables, duck soup and pork stew. Me = zero.

But OOoooo ... I smell different kind of foods around the house these days. Hee hee, I smell (anti-clockwise) mandarin oranges, pork jerky, nian guo, sweet rice crackers and pork floss. I ate some pork jerky and boy, it tasted gooood that I insisted on having more. Oh no, I think me .... and Nicejellybean have really put on weight after eating and eating and eating for the past 4days ! Boy, we were stuffed. Somehow, my weight has increased to 7.9kgs so Coolboy decided that I should go on a diet until I am back to my ideal weight of 7.5kgs. (shucks!)

I also wore so many new clothes because Nicejellybean bought 4 outfits for me for Chinese New Year. I think because she believes it is good luck to wear new clothes on the first, second, third and fourth day. She bought them cheap from the 'pasar malam' ( weekly night market) and 1 -2 year old baby section in Carrefour Hypermarket. I likey them all because I look like a pwetty chinese princess.

The favourite red "cheongsam" which I wore for the Reunion Dinner on Chinese New Year Eve.

Pwetty flower and butterfly motifs on my dress

You are my yellow sunshine dress

OK time for another change of outfit

me wearing a frilly pink dress

Doncha I look like a pwetty Princess ? Where is my Prince CHARMING , where ?

I call this my most oriental one because of the dragon motif at the back.

Nicejellybean has even bought a cute outfit for my Valentines Day which you must see ... in the next post.

Wishing You & Your Family "A Happy & Prosperous 2008" & "Gong Xi Fa Cai"! We hope that everyone are having a wonderful time celebrating with their family and friends.

Happy Chinese New Year. Wishing you and everydoggy another" healthy and prosperous" 2008 years ahead.

A Basketful of Toys

I certainly know where to go looking for toys and playthings. I choose my toy or anything that catches my eye from this basket.

I do have a special liking towards this hairy lion which may soon be a 'bald lion' because I lurve to munch on his hairy mane. Sometimes, the lion's hair did not digest fully in my stomach and it comes out from my butt when I poo. It can be quite disgusting and embarrasing when that happens ! Afterwards, I was banned from playing with the Lion and it was hidden away from me.

He is my best buddy and I like to snuggle up beside him for an afternoon snooze.

However, when I loose interest in my toys, I leave them lying here and there on the floor just like that !

Up up and up but how do I come down?

I have no idea how she managed to climb up our side table

In order to get to her favorite cookies

But we knows that ....

Someone is worried now about how to get down from the table.

Mimi wants to play

FYI, if we do not give Mimi enough attention (like ignore her for 5-10 minutes), Mimi will secretly transform into Cat Woman and remain still for a very long time ... looking at us with threatening eyes. Till we give her a treat or play with her. Scary.

Oops ... better play with Mimi now. Byiee !!

Wonder Clown

It squeaks when I press its belly and I can also play tug-of-war with the arms. The Clown is a special present from my hooman Auntie who is visiting from USA. She chose the toy for me from Petsmart, a huge pet store. Well, the place sounds like my kind of 'Disneyland' to me.

The clown is the latest to my collection of fun toys. Oh did I mention that I also chew the little bugger when I am naughty. No matter how hard I chew his head, it's still intact hmmm ... not for long. It is now top of my favourite toy list.
